Partners in Innovation: Including Affordable and Workforce Housing within Transit-Oriented Development
National Symposium – Monday, September 27, 2010
This day-long national symposium will examine the challenges and opportunities for developing and sustaining Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) that includes housing opportunities affordable to working families and families with low- and moderate-incomes.
At this session, CNT President, Scott Bernstein, will be presenting at the following panel:
Data Tools to Support Housing + TOD Decision-Making
This session will provide hands-on training of the Center for Transit-Oriented Development’s new data
tools, designed to facilitate the planning of transit-oriented development at the local level. The session will
also address how to use data on the combined burden of housing and transportation costs to advocate for
affordable/workforce TOD and as a marketing tool to encourage households to consider location-efficiency
in their housing search process.
Partners in Innovation: Preserving Affordable Rental Housing Near Transit
Policy Forum – Tuesday, September 28, 2010
Plan to extend your stay in Denver to participate in a special day-long forum examining the connection between affordable rental housing preservation and transit hosted by the National Housing Conference and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Context for Transit + Housing Preservation
To set this stage, this session will highlight housing and transportation data from several cities
represented at the forum detailing where transit systems exist and are planned as well as where
housing costs are highest.
Partners in Innovation attendees will include a variety of stakeholders, including state and local policymakers; for-profit and nonprofit housing developers; financiers and funders; community-based organizations; city and regional planners; transportation professionals; elected and appointed officials; housing and sustainability advocates; representatives from federal agencies; academics and many others.

Application Deadline for GreenWorks Awards

Mayor Daley’s GreenWorks Awards 2010 will celebrate the vibrancy, vitality, and vision of the people and institutions that are driving Chicago’s transformation into a more environmentally, socially, and economically robust and resilient city.
Whether you are an activist, an employee, an entrepreneur, or a business owner, if you are leading Chicago towards a greener future, we welcome your application in any or all of the Award categories: Sustainable Innovation in the Built Environment, Innovation in Green Business, and Community Leadership.
GreenWorks Award applications are based off of three criteria: vision, achievement, and relevance to the Chicago Climate Action Plan. After two rounds of judging by a panel of sustainability experts from diverse sectors, Mayor Daley will present awards to the winners at a ceremony in October.
Applications must be submitted with all necessary attachments by 4:30pm on Tuesday, October 5, 2010. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
